PS5 Slim, PlayStation Portal and Gift Ideas (PRESS START Issue 03)
November Newsletter from SpawnPoiint
We are fast approaching the end of 2023, and what a month it’s been for new games and new hardware. Here’s a quick recap and what to expect in December.
GTA 6?
IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING, after more than 10 years since GTA V launched, Rockstar themselves have confirmed the ‘next installment of Grand Theft Auto’ trailer is coming in early December. They’ve not called it GTA 6, but it’s what we’re all assuming it’s going to be.
I’m taking a guess at a late 2024 to mid 2025 launch, but realistically I’m leaning towards 2025. Either way I’M HYPED!
Game of The Year Awards
On December 7th we have the GOTY Awards, where we get to see which are considered the ‘best’ games across several categories. Below are the nominations for the GOTY Award, which would you pick? Spider-Man 2 was an incredible game, but will it win?
PS5 Slim
Earlier in November the new PS5 Slim launched in the US (it released in the UK this week), which is the new slimmer PS5 that will eventually replace the original PS5 as we know it.
It’s 30% smaller, has a removable disc drive and a 1TB drive instead of 825GB. If you’ve got a PS5 already it’s probably not worth the ‘upgrade’ but otherwise this newer one will save some space in your setup. At the moment it’s only available with the white console covers, but come January we should be seeing some alternative options. I did a full review and unboxing on this on the channel too.
PlayStation Portal
On November 15th we saw the release of the new PlayStation Portal. This is PlayStation’s handheld device that allows you to stream your PS5 remotely. It had a mixed response at launch as I know a lot wanted a PS Vita 2 (which would allow offline gaming), whereas this can only be used to remote play the PS5. Although it’s limited I feel it’s a positive step in the right direction.
New Games November
It’s felt like a long month, but during November we did have some decent new games. COD MW3, RoboCop Rogue City, EA Sports WRC and Super Mario RPG. Not as strong a month as October, but plenty of games to keep us busy.
COD MW3 took me by surprise at how good the multiplayer has been. Yes it’s basically a DLC with remastered maps, but the movement and gameplay feels great. I’m already hyped for the new season to start ranking up again.
PlayStation Plus ‘Free Games’
In November we got:
Mafia II: Definitive Edition - I’m a huge fan of the Mafia series so I’d highly recommend playing this.
Dragon Ball: The Breakers
Aliens Fireteam Elite
And in December we will be getting:
LEGO 2K Drive
Powerwash Simulator
Sable
Games I’m Playing
Call of Duty MW3 - Yes it’s a DLC, yes it’s overpriced, yes it’s a guilty pleasure, but I can’t help playing this game with my mates. There’s something about jumping on and smashing out a few games of HC Dom or HC HQ on a Friday night. The campaign disappointed me though, so overall I’d rate this 7/10
Watch Dogs Legion - I played this game at launch then forgot all about it. But last weekend I visited London for a couple of days and it gave me the itch to carry on with the story again. The FPS is slow but I’m enjoying it 8/10
Games I’m HYPED for
So October was incredibly busy for new games, but there are a few coming out I’m hyped for in December:
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora
The Day Before - is this actually going to launch?
Born of Bread - this paper mario looking game looks awesome.
